How ACT on Drugs Integrates The CASEL Framework
ACT on Drugs integrates the CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) Framework by moving away from traditional “scare tactics” and focusing on a whole-person approach to drug education. Rather than simply telling students to “just say no” the program empowers them with objective, science-based information to foster responsible decision-making which is a core pillar of CASEL.
3 Key ways this program supports CASEL:
- Evidence-Based Curriculum: The program provides 8 class-length videos paired with a full curriculum that is specifically designed to meet SHAPE Standards and align with the CASEL Framework.
- Self-Awareness & Management: By teaching the “objective truths” of how substances impact the body and mind, students develop the awareness needed to manage their health and long-term well-being.
- Social Awareness: The curriculum includes real stories from young people, helping students build empathy and understand the social consequences of substance use.
- Relationship Skills: The videos and lessons, often conducted in classroom-style settings with real peers, encourage open dialogue and help students navigate hard questions and social pressures.
- Responsible Decision-Making: A primary goal of the program is to provide “life-saving resources” (such as information on Narcan and mental health support) so students can make informed, healthy choices on their own.
By combining mental health resources, ACT on Drugs ensures that social-emotional learning is at the forefront of their prevention efforts.
